Batyah and Menachem
I was pretty much frustrated with the dating and was ready to delete my profile or at least put it on suspend. So I signed on to frumster and decided to take one last look at the prospects. My brother happened to be looking over my shoulder and pointed out a Chassids picture and said," What about him, he looks interesting?" So I thought to myself what does it hurt to send an email. I looked at Menachem's profile and found that he too was a convert and that he was studying to be a Sofer, so I asked about these to subjects and asked if he would like to be in touch. This was all done on Thursday late night/ Friday very early morning. I didn't hear back from Menachem for a few days and I thought to myself, "Ok so another rejection. I am going to pull my profile." Just by chance I get an email on Tuesday from Menachem answering my questions and asking me more. I was taken back a little since I already had decided he wasn't going to respond. (Guess I should ha! ve given it a little more time before deciding :-) ). So I collected my thoughts and answered his email back. It was pretty long and I asked more questions. We must have sent at least two or three emails in the course of a day. And each time they got longer and more indepth. After the first move on my part, which was the email, Menachem took over. he asked to speak on the phone after the second day of emailing. I suggested giving references first and then if all checked out then we could talk. Turned out my rebbitzin and his rabbi are related (Small world). My rebbitzin called me back as soon as she had spoken to his rabbi and said that he sounded like such a nice man and that she had a good feeling about this one. Second time some one has said this too me, I am starting to think what's going on. So I tell menachem that I heard back and all sounds great and then give my number. He calls the next day and we talk on the phone for an hour and a half. About some! of the most random topics but the conversation was great and I was re ally enjoying it. He calls again the next day and the next. After this we decide that meeting each other would be a good idea. He booked a plane ticket and comes to Florida to see me. I thought I would be so nervous to meet him but I wasn't I was totally at peace and comfortable with him. We went out to eat and talked further. We went out a total of 5 dates while he was here. But I will tell you that on the second date I knew I was marrying this man. As soon as he leaves Florida I book my plane ticket for the next week to go to New York. He picks me up to take me to dinner and then we start to walk around the neighbor hood just talking. I can tell Menachem is starting to get nervous about something. He is bringing up big topics to discuss. I can tell that he is really nervous by the fact he is winding his tzitzis around his finger. I know that he hadn't prepared to ask me that night but the timing was perfect. He looks at me and asks me to marry him right then and there.... ! I was shocked because I knew it was coming but not this soon. But I didn't want anything else more in the world then to be engaged and to marry this man so I said "YES I will marry you!" And that is how history was made. Menachem had only been on Frumster for 3 day before I emailed him. I had been on for three years.
I would like to share a word of wisdom... When people tell you that it is the time when you least expect it that is when it is going to happen... They are right. And you will know when it is the right one.
Batyah
A word from Menachem:
Before I registered on Frumster I tried to find a match the old-fashion way, through a shadchan. I didn't feel that the meeting with the shadchan went well since it can be difficult for me to relate with other people. I heard from one of my friends that he found someone through Frumster and was currently talking to her. After taking some time to think it over I decided to register. After registering and posted my pictures I decided to wait until I got back from a weekend trip before contacting people. When I got back I saw that two people had sent me a message. After taking at look at their profiles I saw that Batyah was a convert and saw some things about her that I was looking for in a match. I also saw her photo on her profile and I found her attractive. Afterwards I decided to write back to Batyah. My friend advised me to try to call as soon as possible, so after corresponding with Batyah a few times I had had a good ! feeling about her and felt that I would be a good idea to talk over the phone. After asking her if she would like to talk over the phone, she suggested to exchange references and go from there. I heard good things about her by my rabbi and encouraged me to continue communicating with Batyah and to talk with her. Her rebbetzin also heard similar things about me and sent me her phone number. The following night I called Batyah and we talked for and hour and a half. As I have said before it can be difficult for me to relate with other people, but we could of kept talking if we could. After talking to her a few times I wanted to meet her in person. I booked my flight to Florida and planned for a five day trip. After meeting her for the first time I thought, this is the woman I would like to marry. After the five days, I couldn't believe it was time for me to return to New York. By this time I decided that I would ! ask her to marry me when she flew up. She was in New York for ab out five days. I was planning to ask her towards the end of her trip, but on the first night I thought that there was no need to wait. After dinner we went for a walk. I talked to her about my job and what I expect what I'd be doing for the next year. She was very supportive and had all the confidence in me. After this I asked her to marry me. A few days lated we went to the Ohel and had a get together with my friends in New York. Two weeks after I went to Florida for our engagment party. Right now we are planning and eagerly anticipating our wedding in December.
