Kineret and Yitzchok

I had been growing in my Judaism for many years, moving towards an Orthodox life.  Looking for someone with similar values and aspirations ö I listed myself on an online Orthodox "dating" site. 

One night I received an e-mail from Kineret.

I liked what I read (the picture didn't hurt either!) and I responded. After a few e-mails, phone calls and reference checks we agreed to meet. She came to San Francisco and we had a great time!  (We've earned tons of frequent flier miles ever since!)

She grew up in the frozen tundra of Winnipeg, Canada and is a network administrator at a printing company in Winnipeg. She grew up speed skating (what else are you going to do with all that ice?) and competed nationally in college. She's incredibly easy going and tons of fun.  I've never met anyone who is as adaptive and comfortable in different situations.  She's also extremely kind, warm, modest, honest, smart, cute and strong. I could go on and on but I don't want to bore you!

I proposed on Mt. Tam in Marina after a daylong Bay Area tour.

It was kind of like a scavenger hunt.  We started on the Golden Gate Bridge where I gave her a note with a poem that described the significance of the bridge to me.  The last stanza of the poem then pointed to the next destination.  We then went to the next place and repeated the process, taking some time to enjoy each place.  The string of poems alluded to how each place formed me, with Mt. Tam being a vista to see them all, a metaphor for my life up to that point. 

The final poem hinted that I was still missing something ending with " . . ." I then gave her a leather bound book of Psalms which contained the continuation of the previous note.  It read " . . . will you marry me?" 

Kineret & Yitzchok Rifkind, Frumster Couple #24, were married on 4th Elul 5763,  September 1, 2003.
